MacBook Pro

Somehow I am now using a MacBook Pro. I am still not sure how B got this one past me. Is there ever a good reason to spend over a grand on a personal computer, one that we don't use to generate income? He kept telling me what a good deal it was and how much easier it would be to blog using it. He told me that Macs can't get viruses, that it would last forever, that it was for Vegas Baby. Even after he bought it I kept telling him not to open the box and to take it back. We picked it up on Wednesday and he didn't open the box until Sunday night. I think it was my own fault though that he finally opened it. The tipping point of his decision was at a birthday party for the daughter of an old friend of mine. She turned one and they made a really neat video using iMovie. Dang!

So this morning I was updating the Vegas Baby blog. I got my pictures downloaded on the computer, wrote out my blog, and was ready to upload the pictures I wanted. That's when I froze up the Mac. I had to call Brett to figure out if there was some sort of task manager. I think he was a little shocked that in a matter of minutes, I had froze up this awesome computer. But after about 10 minutes, him asking a co-worker who uses a Mac, and browsing around some forums online, we were able to figure it out: command-option-esc is how you can "force quit" a program that is not responding. Good to know!

This being the first time I have used a Mac, there are a couple of things that are driving me crazy! First, why does everything have to be opposite from Windows? The buttons to close a window (I know, it is probably not called a "window" when you are using a Mac. Bite me.) are on the top left instead of the top right. What I would call the start menu is on the top instead of the bottom. There are also some things I haven't found yet. My keyboard does not have a page down button and there is no right click (I know there are ways to do this but you have to learn them or set them up). Overall, it is going to take some getting used to. And I think it will be difficult for my brain to go back and forth on different machines. But hopefully I will learn to love this expensive thing, because right now I am thinking of all the other things we could do with a grand.

  1. Oh Cindy! YOU WILL LOVE IT! I PROMISE! Matt and I have a Mac at home and we use PC's at work. We always say once you go Mac you NEVER GO BACK! They are so intuitive! I love reading your blog. I can't wait to see you and meet little Kyler.
    Take care,
